Are eBikes Street Legal?
Most eBikes are street legal in the US when they fall within Class 1, 2, or 3 definitions: pedal assist or throttle capped at 20 mph (Class 1 and 2) or pedal assist up to 28 mph (Class 3). Bikes that exceed these limits are typically classified as mopeds or motorcycles and require registration and a license instead.
The Juiced Scrambler is a street legal eBike. It switches between all three classes and includes the lighting and speed limits each classification requires.
What Makes a Street Legal eBike Different From an Electric Dirt Bike?
An electric dirt bike is usually built for off-road use only, without a headlight, taillight, turn signals, or a speed governor, which makes it illegal to ride on public roads in most places. eBikes like the Juiced Scrambler have the look and feel of an electric dirt bike, plus a switchable Class 1/2/3 mode that keeps the top speed within legal limits.
That difference is what lets a street legal eBike ride the same trails an electric dirt bike can access, and then ride home on the road afterward.
What's the Best Street Legal eBike for You?
Every Scrambler ships street legal out of the box, so the choice comes down to how and where you ride.
- If you want dirt-bike looks with full street legality: The Scrambler HT starts at $1,699 with headlight, taillight, turn signals, and Class 1/2/3 switching built in.
- If you split time between road and light trail: The Scrambler FS adds a rear shock for the off-road half of your riding while staying just as street legal on the way there.
- If your rides are longer: The Scrambler HT Dual-Battery keeps the same street-legal equipment with roughly double the range.
