What Are Parental Controls on an eBike?
Parental controls on an eBike are settings that let a parent limit how fast the bike can go, usually protected by a password or PIN so the rider can't change the limit themselves. They exist to let a parent extend riding independence to a teen gradually, rather than an all-or-nothing choice between no eBike and full speed.
The Scrambler's version of this is called Parent Mode: a top speed cap adjustable from 1 to 28 mph, locked behind a PIN code entered through the bike's integrated display.
How Do You Set Up Parental Controls on the Scrambler?
Parent Mode is accessed through the Scrambler's integrated TFT display, where a parent sets a maximum speed within the 1 to 28 mph range and assigns a PIN code to lock that setting. Once set, the bike will not exceed the assigned speed limit until the correct PIN is entered to change it.
This works independently of which Class (1, 2, or 3) the bike is set to, meaning a parent can layer a specific speed cap on top of the bike's broader classification for an extra level of control.
Which eBike Has the Best Parental Controls?
Parent Mode is standard across every Scrambler configuration, so this feature does not factor into which version to choose. The decision instead comes down to suspension and range.
- If you want parental controls at the lowest price: The Scrambler HT starts at $1,699 with Parent Mode included standard.
- If your rider will be on rougher streets or trails: The Scrambler FS includes the same Parent Mode with added rear suspension for better control at lower supervised speeds.
- If longer rides are part of the plan: The Scrambler HT Dual-Battery includes the same Parent Mode with roughly double the range.
