What Are Electric Bikes?

Electric bikes, also called e-bikes, are like traditional bikes but feature a small electric motor that delivers a power boost for effortlessly climbing hills, passing slow-moving traffic, and riding long distances. E-bikes use a battery to power the compact electric motor, which is integrated into the hub of the rear wheel on all Juiced Bikes.

Like conventional bicycles, you can pedal an electric bicycle, but you always have the option of getting an extra boost from the motor through pedal assistance or the throttle (if you just want to relax and let the motor do all the work!). Pedal assist uses a speed sensor to detect when you pedal and supplies power from the motor. The two types of speed sensors are cadence and torque. Cadence sensors are like a light switch, turning the motor ON when you pedal and OFF when you stop. Torque sensors, on the other hand, measure how hard you pedal and apply power to match your pedaling effort. In other words, the harder you pedal, the faster you’ll go!
